The German Rugby League and GRLA have formed an extremely positive relationship!

On 22nd January German rugby league player, Joshua Leutenecker, came to Manchester to explore the potential opportunities that exist for him on the Global Rugby League Academy programme! Joshua was introduced to staff at Manchester Metropolitan University, partner university of GRLA, where he undertook a tour of the university campus and sports facilities at Platt Lane – the former training ground of Premier League giants, Manchester City FC! He also completed Strength & Conditioning assessments with GRLA coaching staff, as well as using the gym at the aforementioned Platt Lane. We caught up with Joshua, who last year made his German RL international debut against Netherlands & Wales ‘A’ Dragonhearts, to see what he thought of his short visit:

GRLA: What was your experience like here in Manchester & Halifax?
JL: I had some great days in England, really had the chance to get some experience and to get some information about studying, playing and living in England. Furthermore I also had some time to stroll around the city (of Manchester).
GRLA: What did you do whilst on your visit?
JL: I did some fitness with the Academy (Global Rugby League Academy) and Uni staff (Manchester Metropolitan University). In addition, I also had time to do some sightseeing around Manchester and go to some local museums.
GRLA: Were the Global Rugby League Academy staff helpful when you were here?
JL: Yeah they were really helpful! Really cared for me, whether it was accommodation or setting up meetings with staff from the university.
GRLA: Do you hope to start attending GRLA in September 2017? If so, what do you hope to achieve?
JL: Yes I really hope to attend GLRA in September since it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. My goal is to become a better player and to spread the game of rugby league in Germany!
