On Sunday 7th May 2017 GRLA undertook Strength & Conditioning assessments under the guidance of coach, Juan Jasso. This year S&C assessments have been undertaken once every 3 months in an attempt to monitor improvements/areas for development in our players. The main focus is on 3 rep maximum lifts on both squat and bench press, sprint testing, agility testing & endurance running. On this occasion, due to the sophisticated equipment that Juan was able to obtain, we were able to complete the following tests:

  1. Height – Metres (Gym Scales)
  2. Weight – Kilograms (Hand Measure)
  3. Skinfold Measurements for BF%
  4. 12-minute Run – Metres (treadmill)
  5. 20m Sprint – Seconds (Timing Gates)
  6. Vertical jump- Centimetres (Jump Matt)
  7. Bench 3RM – Kilograms
  8. Squat 3RM – Kilograms

This event was also extra special as it gave us a chance to introduce two potential new players to the GRLA programme – Myles Harrop & Patrick Noutch! Both these players hail from Cumbria, although Patrick was in fact born in Scotland and is currently representing Scotland RL at U19’s level. Cumbria is a well-documented key area for developing rugby league and having both Myles & Patrick on board with GRLA for the 2017/18 campaign will allow us to give something back to the game there and support development. The two young men trained with existing GRLA players, Jack Stevenson & Jordan Gray (Archie Andrade was unavailable having played with Scotland Students against Keighley Cougars the previous day). The lads trained very well and posted some impressive results (see below). Juan will now develop gym training programmes for the players to follow aimed at improving their all round ability and, subsequently, their playing performance.
