Following on from a successful week-long training opportunity with the London Broncos U19s Academy in early July, GRLA’s Jack Stevenson earned an extended trial period with the club due to his impressive strength and overall attitude! Jack, who originates from the Aberdeen Warriors club in his native Scotland, has been plying his trade with Halifax Elite Rugby Academy and King Cross Park RLFC whilst on the GRLA programme. The trial with the London Broncos U19s caps an impressive 12 month stint with GRLA which has seen Jack progress from rugby league novice in September 2016, through earning the Player’s Player of the Year accolade for King Cross Park’s Pennine League team, to cementing his place within the Scotland U19s setup. The trial will see Jack, who has taken in similar training opportunities with Wigan Warriors & Huddersfield Giants during his time with GRLA, train with the club until the end of August. The experience will no doubt set him up for a successful rugby league future as he seeks to learn about the game in the most elite of environments. Here’s what Jack has thought about his experience this far:

GRLA: What do you think of the experience you are having with London Broncos Academy? What is the training/facilities like?:
JS: I have enjoyed the intensity of the gym sessions at London Broncos. The coaches have taught me how to perform cleans and front squats properly as well as show me some workout routines.
GRLA: How do you feel at being offered the opportunity to stay with the Broncos on an extended trial?:
JS: Being offered an extended trial was a great opportunity for me to prove myself at the club and progress my game with the high standard coaching and training sessions.
GRLA: How are you getting on with your London teammates? Are they helping you to settle into the environment there?:
JS: I’ve got on very well with the players at Broncos. They have all been very friendly and I have even gone on a night out with them.
GRLA: Do you feel that GRLA has helped you to get opportunities like this?:
JS: Yes definitely, without GRLA and their links to clubs like this I wouldn’t have the opportunity to train with them and meet the people I have.
It has been brilliant to offer Jack, and also the other GRLA players, opportunities like this! We will continue to do this with players from emerging areas well into the future so, if you are a prospective player and are interested in joining the GRLA programme then please contact us with your enquiry. We will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible!
